Any areas opened to public such as offices or sales areas must comply with applicable sections of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code. Permit required shall be a "Change of Use" on existing building. Health Department: Sanitary facilities available and adequate for kennel operators. Dog waste is hosed into a holding tank and pumped on a regular basis by Merritt's Sanitation. Ultimate responsibility for dog waste lies with SWCB, and a letter will be sent accordingly. Until we receive some guidance from State Water Control Board, Health Dept. has no objection Planning Department: This application is for an existing kennel operation that was unknowingly operating illegally in the Rural Areas District. Approval of this permit will not change the character and established pattern of development in this area. The existing kennel facilities are approximately 200-250 feet from the nearest residence and adequate screening is provided by a mixture of trees and vegetation. This is a fairly large kennel with 18 adult dogs. It is the staff's opinion that if the number of adult dogs were to exceed 20, then new facilities would be necessary. The existing driveway area provides adequate parking for approximately five vehicles. Since overnight boarding of dogs is not proposed and since the site is well buffered from adjoining properties, noise is not expected to be a problem.
