The only justification for granting the applicant a variance, is if this restriction presented is an undue hardship. Monetary gain or loss is not a criteria for hardship. Ordinances which are implemented with much consideration should not be discarded due to marketing tools. Nor should variances be granted for signs so they can "out do" one another. Because the requirement can be met without placing a burden or hardship on the applicant, staff feels the additional height is not necessary.
