application. The Department of Planning & Development will review the application to ensure that it is
complete prior to accepting it. If any portion of the application is not complete, it will be returned to the
applicant(s).
(1) One (1) set of approved comment sheets are required from each relevant review
agency prior to final approval of a site plan. It is recommended that applicants
contact the Department of Planning & Development to determine which review

Dear Mr. Johns:
The Frederick County Department of Planning and Development administratively approved the
above -referenced site plan on May 12, 2003. The site plan is approved for the construction of a
6,400-square-foot fraternal lodge for the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). The following
improvements will also be provided for this development:
• The construction of 29 parking spaces, including two handicap spaces. All parking spaces
shall have curb and gutter, striping, landscaping, and asphalt paving.
• Planting of 12 Dogwood trees, four Linden trees, and a continuous evergreen hedge row
(along the rear and a portion of the right property lines) as detailed on the landscaping plan.
• Installation of a dumpster with the construction of a concrete pad and an opaque wood fence.
• Installation of Fire Code improvements, including, but not limited to, a new fire hydrant, a
hose bibb, and fire lanes.
• Construction of stormwater improvements as detailed on the erosion and grading plans.
I am providing you with four copies of the approved site plan. Please forward these copies to the
appropriate representative(s). Furthermore, advise the owner(s) that a copy should be kept for
future reference, and an approved copy must be kept on the construction site throughout the
development process. Once site development is complete, the owner(s) should contact this office to
schedule an on -site inspection. Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

.003. I've reviewed the site plan and there are a few concerns which need to be addressed before
final site plan approval can be considered. Please review Staffs conlnlents shown below, and then
1-rcparc a revised site plan for my review. A red -lined copy of the site plan is attached with this letter
to assist you.
REVIEW COit -MENTS
1) Trce Details. Please indicate on the landscaping page of the site plan that all trees shall be
planted with a caliper of at least 2" at the time of planting. Staff SLlggests that you diversify
your landscaping by providing a mixture of tree species. A tree with strong fall and spring
coloring would Complement the L1111fo1•nl appeal•ancc of the proposed Linclens. Also, some
of the proposed tree locations would be more conducive for a smaller t.l•ee.
2) I-tedae Row Details. Please indicate on the landscaping page ofthe site plan that all proposed
}ledge rows will be evergreen in natLil•C and shall be at least 3' tall at the time of planting. It
would also be appropt•iatc to provicle the species of shrubs to be used for the hedge rows.
