EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL NARRATIVE
Project Description
The intent of this plan is to prevent accelerated soil erosion and sedimentation and to
protect the streams of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The purpose of this project is to
' construct an addition to an existing building and a crane track.
There is approximately 0.2 acre of land to be disturbed.
Existing Site Conditions
The site is on existing manufacturing facility. The site consists of an existing building and
paved drives and parking areas. The soil on site is Carbo silt loam. This is a moderately deep,
well —drained soil with 7 to 15 percent slopes Surface runoff is medium and the erosion
hazard is severe.
Adjacent Property
The site is bordered on the norhtwest by State Route 651 and on the northeast by
State Route 880. The site is bordered on the remaining sides by undeveloped posture.
Critical Erosion Areas
There are no critical erosion areas on the site.

Erosion and Sediment Control Measures
Unless otherwise indicated, all vegetative and structural erosion and sediment control
practices shall be constructed and maintained according to the minimum standards
and specifications of the Virginia Erosion and Sediment Control Handbook, 1992 edition.
1. Silt Fence — 3.05
A temporary silt fence shall be erected to prevent sheet erosion from
construction activities.
2. Temporary seeding — 3.31
Temporary seeding shall be applied within 7 days to denuded areas
that may not be at final grade but will remain dormant for longer than
30 days. Selection of temporary seeding shall be in accordance with
Table 3.31C of the Virginia Sediment and Erosion Control Handbook,
1992 edition, for the appropriate season. Temporary seeding shall be
fertilized and mulched in accordance with Section 3.31 of the Virginia
Erosion and Sediment Control Handbook, 1992 edition.
Management Strategies
1 Construction shall be sequenced so that grading operations con begin
and end as quickly as possible.
2 Immediately following grading on the site place
gravel base on the limits of paved areas. Then permanently stabilize the
remainder of the site with vegetal cover. All unpaved disturbed areas shall be
mulched, limed, fertilized and seeded within 7 days after final grade is reached or
within 7 days if the area is to be left in a rough grade condition for more than 30
days

3. The Contractor shall be responsible for the installation and maintenance of all
erosion and sediment control practices.
Permanent Stabilization
All areas not otherwise covered shall be stabilized with permanent seeding immediately
following finish grading. For seedbed preparation, lime and fertilize according to soil test.
Compacted, crusted or hardened soils shall be loosened by disking, raking, harrowing or other
means. Evenly apply seed with hydroseeder Seeding mixtures, rates and dates shall be in
accordance with Std. and Spec. 3.32 of the Virginia Erosion and Sediment Control Handbook,
1992 edition Immediately after seeding is completed, all areas shall be mulched Use straw
at the rate of 2 tons per ocre and anchor. Other mulch materials maybe used in
accordance with the Virginia Erosion and Sediment Control Handbook, 1992 edition.
Permanent soil stabilization must be applied to denuded areas within 7 days after final grade
is reached on any portion of the site. Also apply permanent soil stabilization to areas that
may not be at final grade but wil remain dormant for longer than one year.
Maintenance
1. In general, all erosion and sediment control measures shall be checked weekly and
after each significant rainfall, and shall be maintained according to the guidelines
set forth in the Virginia Erosion and Sediment Control Handbook, 1992 edition.
2 All seeded areas shall be checked regularly to see that a good stand is maintained.
Areas should be fertilized and reseeded as necessary.
Ni Roof only addition over pavement does not add impervious area to site.
Thus, stormwater runoff from site remains the some.
