Ruddy, Planner H 11- Subject: Opequon Water Reclamation Facility Upgrade Site Plan #067-98 Date: December 2, 1998 The above referenced site plan is presented to the Commission for information. Customarily, projects involving public facilities are brought before the commission for your review. The upgrades of the Opequon facility include the addition of two secondary clarifiers, a third aeration basin, and upgrade of the septic receiving facility to a 24-hour receiving facility. The overall cost of the project is $9,830,475. This site plan represents a significant increase in the capacity of the facility. The plant's hydrological capacity will be increased by two million gallons to 8.25 million gallons per day. In addition, the biological capacity will be doubled from 9,600 BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand) to 18,000 BOD. The Opequon facility is die first plant in the Shenandoah Region of the Potomac -Shenandoah River Basin to incorporate biological nutrient removal strategies identified in the Shenandoah and Potomac River Basins Tributary Nutrient Reduction Strategy. The aim of the Tributary Strategy is to reduce pollution from the tributary, in this case point source pollution, to the Chesapeake Bay by the year 2000. 107 North Kent Street • Winchester, Virginia 22601-5000 • • SITE PLAN APPLICATION <<v Department of Planning and Development Use only - "'ate d^>^:t;vR retie?vev ✓'4 i f^fJiiC3tI f1 r'' Ccrnplefe.
