Application rate shall be 50 lbs/ocr'e. After seeding, the stream banks shall be further protected by placing an erosion blanket such as Gurlex Quick6r'ass, Jute mesh or similar material to minimize erosion. All plants shall be one year of age and gown under wet cultivation condition, where practical. Planting patterns shall be random and mixed for the different tree species. Tree and Shaba shall be provided in 2 to 5-gallon containers or bare root wrapped in burlap. Pu-pleosler tallow (shrubs) to be planted on a 2'X2' staggered pattern with flr*t row of plants at waters edge (oh.m) and second row at top of stream bank. Red Osier Dogwood to be planted in clusters of 12 plants each on 2'X2' spacing. Two clusters on each side Of lowland shelf adjacent to stream channel. Plant locations will be established and staked prior to planting by environmental consultant. The top of the plant root ball shall be set even with or slightly above the existing grade and then covered with an additional three to four Inches of organic mulch. No planting shall occur in frozen ground or when the ambient soil temperature is below 410 F. Plants stored onsite shall not remain unplanted for longer than three days after delivery. In addition, the plants should be stored in a protective area upon arrival in order to shade them from exposure to the sun and drying wind. Plants that carrot be planted Immediately upon delivery shall be kept well shaded, protected, and watered. Rootballe not mapped by readily biodegradable coverings should be carefully removed prior to planting. In general, all plants shall be handled in a fashion that will minimize damage to root systems and stems. No storage of herbicides or other agricultural chemicals shall be permitted near the plant storage or milk* tlon areas. Plants shall remain upright during troreport/storage and all damaged plants shall be removed from storage whereupon they may be used as mulch unless diseased. Holes excavated for tree and shrub species shall have vertical sides aid a flat bottom. The holes excavated for the rootball should be a rminUm u m of six Inches greater than the rootball diameter. The holes may be excavated elther by hand shovel or power auger. Excess soil generated from the excavations shall be disposed of rcrdornly over the alto. The plants shall be set at the some depth that they were grown in and the trunk should be situated nearly plumb. Trees and shrubs shall be staked, as necessary, to prevent them from overturning. If the plants arrive in container's, the contractor should take care to avoid damage to the root systems upon removal from the container. Mix one port peatmoss or dehydrated cow manure (as specified) per four ports of native soil as anendment to support the rootball. Additional slow -release fertilizer consisting of six percent nitrogen, twenty percent phosphorus, and twenty percent potash (6-20-20) should be applied, as necessary, to the planted trees and shrubs. All vegetation shall be watered the day after planting and thereafter as necessary to ensure survival until the end of the growing season of the first year. Trees shall be obtained from a reputable nursery or from the Virginia Department of Forestry. Seedlings provided by private nursery shall carry a rear guarantee. Tree seedlings shall be properly protected by wire cages, tree tubes or similar devices to protect from grazing. Where necessary, repellants such as RopelTN, Deer AN%T" , Tree GuordT" or HV d Tm may be applied to discourage aggressive gazing. Warm season grasses shall be planted between May I and Jme 50 at the rate of 12 Iles/acre. Prior to planting the existing thatch cover of rye shall be aerated and scarified utilizing a roto-tiller or equivalent equipment to ensure adequate seed contact. Specify pure live seed (PL51 from supplier. Seed shall be planted no deeper than ? inch utilizing a spike aerator/drop spreader or sUNlor method such as light thatching so as to ersur'e good ground contact. Following application, the area shall be lightly rolled. The pH level within the generalized root zone of new plantings should be tested and brought to within a range of 5.5 to 1.0. The pH adjustments can be made using powdered Ilene. For tree plantings, a slow release nitrogen fertilizer (granulated (7-20-20 or wettable equivalent) should be uniformly spread and incorporated Into the native soil at each location. Triple Superphosphate (0-45-0) should also be applied at the rate of OS lbe/plant to promote root development and Improve disease resistance. Areas compacted by foot or vehicle traffic shall be tilled or aerated prior to planting. All planting shall be Inspected after the first year. Any damaged, diseased or distressed plants shall be replaced no later than Jxne 2001. (6MVpky6nvlron/ltrs/6405p1ant schedule) / Q. yEX.
