Depth of Cover Provide minimum cover over piping of 18 inches below average local frost depth or 36 inches below finished grade, whichever is greater VALVE INSTALLATION General Application Use mechanical joint end, nonrising stem gate valves for buried installation Use threaded and flanged -end gate valves for in stallation in pits and inside building Use nonrising. stem UL/FM gate valves for insitallation with indicator post. AWWA-Type Gate t/,,, ves Comply with AWWA C600 install buried valves with stem pointing up and with cast-iron valve box UL/FM-Type Gate Va„5, Comply with NFPA 24 Install buried vvves and valves in pit with stem pointing up and with vertical cast Iron indicator post Install interior valves with wall indicator post FIRE HYDRANT, INSTALLATION UL/FM-Type Fire Hydrants Comply with NFPA 24. Install with gate valve and provision for drainage as indicated. ANCHORAGE INSTALLATION Anchorages: Provide anchorages for tees, plugs and caps, bends, crosses, valves, and hydrant branches. PROTECTIVE COATING APPLICATION Apply full coat of asphalt or other acceptable corrosion -retarding material to surfaces of installed ferrous anchorage devices IDENTIFICATION INSTALLATION Install continuous plastic underground warning tape during back -filling of trench for underground water service piping Locate 6 to 8 inches below finished grade, directly over piping. FIELD QUALITY CONTROL Piping Tests Conduct piping tests before joints are covered and after thrust blocks have sufficiently hardened. Fill pipeline 24 hours prior to testing, and apply test pressure to stabilize system Use only potable water Hydrostatic Tests Test at not less than 1-1/2 times working pressure for 2 hours Increase pressure in 50-psi increments and inspect each joint between increments. Hold at test pressure for one hour, decrease to 0 psi. Slowly increase again to test pressure and hold for one more hour Maximum allowable leakage is 2 quarts per hour per 100 joints Remake leaking joints with new, materials and repeat test until leakage is within above limits U 6 QL U W F- W 2 Q + N M O O(0 r, N N U (0 (0 0 ® C 00 't w SURVEY: C.
