LOCATION: At the intersection of Route 50 East and Interstate 81.
MAGISTERIAL DISTRICT: Shawnee
ADJACENT LAND USE AND ZONING: Commercial land use and B-2 Zoning.
PROPOSED USE AND IMPROVEMENTS: Addition of 83 parking spaces.
REVIEW EVALUATIONS:
Highway Department - 1) The proposed commercial entrance does not meet the
minimum 30' width for egress and ingress type entrances. 2) It is not shown
how applicant proposes to handle the drainage. We are assuming the slot in
the curbing is to relieve the water to drop into the existing ditch from the
curbing to the drop inlet.
Greenwood Fire Company - No objection. Fire lanes along south side of the
Travel Lodge structure needs to be marked.
Planning and Zoning - No objection. This plan is to provide additional
parking facilities to the Travel Lodge Motel. Parking required for this
facility totals 218 spaces. A total of 226 would be provided with this
proposed addition (eight spaces above the minimum required). Structures are
not proposed and utility services are not proposed to be altered. All VDH&T
comments have been addressed and are shown on this plan.
STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS: Approval, with fire company comments.

Inspections Department - Proposed addition to be built in compliance with the
Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code and other applicable standards for
the intended use.
City of Winchester - Use existing water and sewer service.
Greenwood Fire Company - We will need an additional fire hydrant at the north
edge of the site, in the area near the storm drain. Be sure to maintain a
20' fire lane around the rear of the building (This means 20' of road, not
just 20' of open space). This will be necessary for possible rescue.
Va. Dept. of Highways - No objection.
Planning and Zoning - No objection; meets the requirements.
STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS: Approval.

their meeting of May 7, 1986:
Approval of Site Plan #031-85 of Travel Lodge Motel to construct a 52 room,
three-story motel addition and required site improvements located at the
intersection of Route 50 and Interstate 81 in the Shawnee Magisterial District.
Your site plan has been given final approval. All conditions of the approval set
by the Planning Commission must be met. Before any excavation or land
disturbance is undertaken, a land disturbing permit must be obtained and before
construction, a building permit must be obtained.

request for this entrance to the Planning Commission. In that regard,
I would appreciate your preliminary review and comments relative to
location. As discussed, the entrance would be constructed to VDH
specification in the event this frontage road is ever incorporated
into the State roads system.
