Riley, Secretary Department of Planning and Development 9 Court Square Winchester, VA. 22601 Dear Mr. Riley: This is with reference to your letter dated August 4, 1980, regarding the placing of "No Parking" signs on Route 522 in the vicinity of the Valley Flea Market. This site has been reviewed several times by supervisory officers of the State Police and in their opinion the signs are not warranted at this time, there is parking but it is well back from the pavement and does not interfere with sight distance or create a hazard. We will be glad to discuss this with you, if you wish. RCK/jag Copy: Sgt. E. W. Perdue Sincerely yours, W. H. Bushman Resident Engineer i By: R. C. Ki g Asst. Bushman, Resident Engineer Va. Department of Highways and Transportation P. O. Box 278 Edinburg, Va. 22824 Dear Mr. Bushman: P. O. Box 601 9 COURT SQUARE WINCHESTER, VIRGINIA 22601 The purpose of this letter is to express my concern regarding the response of the Highway Department to the Frederick County Planning Commission's request for "no parking" signs to be placed on Route 522 in the vicinity of the Valley Flea Market. This office does not agree with the findings presented in your letter dated September 29, 1980 and still is under the opinion that pedestrian traffic crossing a major arterial is dangerous. I would like to request that further study be undertaken regarding the installation of "no parking" signs. It is felt that the minimum requirement should be no parking on the west side of Route 522 to minimize pedestrian crossing at this location. I look forward to receiving a response from you regarding this matter as soon as possible. If I can be of any assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact me. Sincerely, ( 1 /;& John R.
