The sample was taken from a depth of 18" in order to perform a California Bearing Ratio Test, ASTM-D 1883. On Tuesday, August 2, 1983 two (2) additional bulk samples were obtained from the Travel Lodge Motel roadway area. The samples were obtained from the noted areas, presently under construction, at a depth of 18" to perform a CBR ("California Bearing Ratio") test, ASTM-D 1883. The locations where the 2 samples were obtained are as follows: Sample #2 - 70 N.E. of Man Hole #3 Sample #3 - 80 N.E. of Man Hole #2 Interstate Properties requested and authorized these services. 2.0 Laboratory Test 2 CBR's (California Bearing Ratio) Test, ASTM-D 1883. 3.0 Soil Characteristics The bulk sample was a weathered shale derived from the Martinsburg formation. This friable shale breaks apart readily and will compact using proper compacting equipment. 4.0 Discussion We recommend that compaction be obtained by using a vibratory sheepsfoot roller. The Bearing Ratios obtained from the CBR's are as follows: LABORATORY TEST RESULTS C-095 August 12; 1983 Page 2 Sample #2 0.1" = 13.3% 0.2" = 15.1% Sample #3 0.1" = 8.3% 0.2" = 10.9% The results are presented graphically with this report.
