This is to confirm your conversation of July llth with Mr. Jim Blount
regarding the unsatisfactory condition of the commercial entrance to the
A.E.S. Building on Route 645.
Although this permit has been completed, we have noticed standing water and a
very rough finish on the concrete. A representative of the Airport Business
Center has contacted this office to request positive drainage be obtained and
the surface corrected.
We understand the actual construction of the entrance was performed by
Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc., however, your firms is the agent for A.E.S. on
this permit.
Your cooperation in correcting this matter is appreciated.

however, AES should be advised to confer with the Authority if it plans to

One and Two Family Dwelling Code
R-203.2—Openings. Openings shall not be permitted in exterior walls of
dwellings located less than 3 feet from the property line.
R-203.3—Continuity. The common wall for townhouses shall be continuous
from the foundation to the underside of the roof sheathing, deck or slab and shall
extend the full length of the common wall.
R-203.4—Parapets. Parapets shall be provided for townhouses as an extension
of the common wall and located to subdivide the roof covering an area to 3000 square
feet maximum.
EXCEPTIONS: 1. Roof is covered with a minimum Class C roof covering, and the
roof decking or sheathing is of noncombustible materials or fire -retardant -treated wood
for a distance of 4 feet on either side of the wall, or one layer of 5/8-inch Type X gypsum
board is attached to the underside of the roof decking or sheathing for a distance of 4 feet
on either side of the wall.
2. Where the roof -ceiling framing elements are parallel to the walls, such framing and
elements supporting such framing shall be protected for a width of not less than 4 feet on
each side of the wall by one -hour fire -resistive construction.
3. Where the roof -ceiling framing elements are perpendicular to the wall, the entire
span of such framing and elements supporting such framing shall be protected as
required for one -hour fire -resistive construction.
R-203.5—Structural Independence. Each individual dwelling unit shall be
structurally independent.
EXCEPTIONS: 1. Foundations supporting common walls.
2. Nonstructural wall coverings. -
3. Flashing at termination of roof covering over common wall.
Section R-204—Light and Ventilation
R-204.1—Habitable Rums. All habitable rooms shall be provided with aggre-
gate glazing area of not less than S percent of the floor area of such rooms. One half of
the required area of glazing shall be openable.
EXCEPTIONS: 1. The glazed areas need not be openable where an approved
mechanical ventilation system is provided capable of producing a change of air every 30
minutes and the opening is not required by Section R-211.
2. The glazed areas may be omitted in rooms where an approved mechanical ventila-
tion system is provided capable of producing a change of air every 30 minutes, artificial
light is provided capable of producing an average illumination of 6 footcandles over the
area of the room at a height of 30 inches above the floor level, and the opening is not
required by Section R-211.
R-204.2—Alcove Rooms. When alcove rooms open without obstruction into
adjoining rooms, the required window openings to the outer air shall be based on the
combined floor area of room and alcove. For purpose of determining light and
ventilation requirements, any room may be considered as a portion of an adjoining
room when at least one half of the area of the common wall is open and unobstructed
and provides an opening of not less than one tenth of the floor arei of the interior room
but not less than 25 square feet.
R-204.3—BathroomS. Bathrooms, water -closet compartments and other simi-
lar rooms shall be provided with aggregate glazing area in windows of not less than 3
square feet, one half of which must be openable.
EXCEPTION: The glazed areas are not required where artificial light and an ap-
proved mechanical ventilation system capable of producing a change of air every 12
minutes are provided.
R-204.4—Required Glazed Openings. Required glazed openings shall open
