The Space Shuttle depends on Pioneer
reliability. After each flight, NASA recovers
each "strap on" booster rocket which has
been safely lowered to an ocean landing by
parachutes manufactured by Pioneer. The
85-ton rockets and their parachutes are
retrieved and refurbished to fly again.
You, too, can depend on a parachute by
Pioneer. The Ballistic Parachute System® is
a 29' diameter mortar deployed parachute
designed to save ultralight pilots in the event
of a mid -air emergency at altitudes as low as
two hundred feet.

Pioneer Parachute Company, Incorporated, the world leader in parachute recovery
systems, has developed the Ballistic Parachute System for the purpose of recovering
ultralight and homebuilt aircraft and their pilots in the event of a mid -air emergency.
Employing an aerospace quality pyrotechnic charge, the Ballistic Parachute System
propels a 29 foot parachute, which has been pressure packed into a deployment bag,
away from the disabled aircraft at a velocity of ninety feet per second. Deployment of the
parachute begins when the pilot pulls a handle firing the pyrotechnic device and the entire
sequence takes approximately 1.5 seconds to achieve a fully inflated canopy. This results
in minimum loss of altitude and allows the Ballistic Parachute System to be effective as
low as 200 feet above the ground. Since the Ballistic Parachute System by Pioneer utilizes
a "line first" deployment of the parachute rather than "canopy first", the system is
inherently more reliable than those manufactured by other companies. The parachute is
constructed of military specification nylon materials and attaches to the aircraft by means
of a 10,000 pound test Kevlar° bridle.
After being sealed at the Pioneer Parachute Company facility in Manchester,
Connecticut, the Ballistic Parachute System is approved for a five year service life. At the
end of five years or after use, the entire system is returned to Pioneer for inspection,
servicing, repacking, sealing and is then returned to the owner ready for re -installation on
his aircraft.
