This is to aclax7wledge and thank you for your letter dated 1-Lay 30, 1934
and we have the following c=-ents .
The third (3rd) paragraph of your letter indicates that we approved the
sa,•rer line in 1974. Please be advised, that when the review was made,
all that we approved were the geometric desi.,gn of the proposed roa&Tay.
The Department has the responsibility to preserve the operational safety,
integrity and function of the high,ray facility once it becomes a part of
our system. Our experience with manholes in the pavement is a very def
finite detriment to our maintenance operation, notwithstanding the safety
of the traveling public. In reality, the locations of these facilities
under the pavement is more expensive to the utility cam2ny from a main-
tenance point of view. We do not feel that the fact we allured the in-
stallation of these so.7er lines under the first two sections set any
precedent for the third section.
F?e are sorry that tie canr_�ot honor your- request as it is otx judgment that
longitudinal installations should be located in the tzniforin aligmient as
near as practicable to the right-of-wwj line on the outer 3 to 5 foot
edge of the right -of -way.

Dear Mr. Gyurisin:
Transmitted herewith are the following documents to be reviewed
by your staff and by the Planning Commission for approval:
1. Four (4) copies of the proposed site plan indicating an
addition to the existing Western Union Building of
approximately 19,100 square feet.
2. One (1) copy of the Schematic Plan by VVKR, Inc.
3. One (1) copy of a plot plan with vicinity map showing
exact property and its relative location to the existing
Western Union complex.
4. Application and checklist for site plan.
Additional copies of 2 and 3 above will be forwarded to you upon
request, but we are on a very tight schedule to complete this
project, and desire to get to you what we have in hopes that this
plan may be reviewed on June 6 by the Planning Commission.
If, for any reason, the plan cannot be reviewed until the June
20th meeting, we would like to apply for a "rough grading only"
permit to be able to bring the site to grade while waiting for
planning commission approval and final drawings to submit for
building permit.
