I have reviewed the two entrances in questions with Mr. Steve Melnikoff. The following is based on our combined input and VDOT's minimum standards: Route 645 Entrance: • Sight distance unobstructed for 350'. This is based on the posted speed limit of 35 MPH. • A 30' entrance with minimum radii to accommodate truck traffic, 25' minimum. • A pavement structure at a minimum of 8" of 21-B aggregate base stone and 2" of SM -12.5 asphalt pavement. • Since this entrance serves two properties, a joint use agreement between yourself and Mr. Turner will need to be provided to us along with your land use permit application. Route 644 Entrance: • We will require the same design criteria as stated for Route 645. A joint use agreement will be required only if the entrance is shared by two or more property owners or is accessed through an easement. • The sight distance required would be 550' due to Route 644's unposted speed limit of 55 MPH. Of the two locations, we encourage you to utilize the proposed Route 644 entrance due to better accessibility and sight distance and less impact on the existing State road. Prior to any work being performed within the VDOT right-of-way, a land use permit must be obtained from our Residency Office.
