Based off of the review of the Drawings, we have the following comments: 1. General: Since the two entrances are spaced closer than the minimum spacing allowed by the Access Management Regulations (565'), a request for an exception to the spacing standards shall be submitted to this office using Form AM -1. This form is available on the VDOT web site at http://vdotforms.vdot.virginia.gov/. Mark the reason for exception as "To be located on an older, established business section of a highway corridor where existing spacing did not meet the spacing standards prior to July 1, 2008" and attach a dated aerial photograph identifying the corridor and the entrance location. 2. General: Provide the current VDOT General Notes (attached for your use) in the Project Drawings. 3. General: Provide a Transportation Management Plan including 2011 Virginia Work Area Protection Manual Standard Details, Traffic Control Plan, and Public Communications Plan for a Type "A" Project. A guide has been attached for your use in creating the TMP. 4. Sheet 2: Revise the VDOT Std. CG -12 Detail to be in accordance with the current July 2012 Revision of the Standard. Also include VDOT Std. CG -11 and WP -2 details in the Drawings. 5. Sheet 5: Since the configuration of the site is changing from that of the existing site, provide a turning movement sketch illustrating the proposed path of the largest gasoline and product delivery vehicles to ensure that the vehicle can maneuver into and out of the site. 6. Sheet 5: The existing entrance pavement appears to be in poor condition. Specify that each entrance must be milled and re- paved. Make connection to existing asphalt per the VDOT Std. WP -2 Pavement Widening detail. Show the limits of the mill and overlay in plan view to extend across the nearest adjacent lane of traffic per the detail (Note: Overlay of adjacent lane may be waived in the field at the discretion of the VDOT Inspector). Also, show an entrance profile of each entrance from centerline of roadway to 25' beyond the Right -of -Way with grades and connections in accordance with VDOT Standard CG -11 and WP -2. 7. Based off of the review of the Drawings, we have the following comments: 1. General: Since the two entrances are spaced closer than the minimum spacing allowed by the Access Management Regulations (565'), a request for an exception to the spacing standards shall be submitted to this office using Form AM -1. This form is available on the VDOT web site at http://vdotforms.vdot.virginia.gov/. Mark the reason for exception as "To be located on an older, established business section of a highway corridor where existing spacing did not meet the spacing standards prior to July 1, 2008" and attach a dated aerial photograph identifying the corridor and the entrance location. 2. General: Provide the current VDOT General Notes (attached for your use) in the Project Drawings. 3. General: Provide a Transportation Management Plan including 2011 Virginia Work Area Protection Manual Standard Details, Traffic Control Plan, and Public Communications Plan for a Type "A" Project. A guide has been attached for your use in creating the TMP. 4. Sheet 2: Revise the VDOT Std. CG -12 Detail to be in accordance with the current July 2012 Revision of the Standard. Also include VDOT Std. CG -11 and WP -2 details in the Drawings. 5. Sheet 5: Since the configuration of the site is changing from that of the existing site, provide a turning movement sketch illustrating the proposed path of the largest gasoline and product delivery vehicles to ensure that the vehicle can maneuver into and out of the site. 6. Sheet 5: The existing entrance pavement appears to be in poor condition. Specify that each entrance must be milled and re- paved. Make connection to existing asphalt per the VDOT Std. WP -2 Pavement Widening detail. Show the limits of the mill and overlay in plan view to extend across the nearest adjacent lane of traffic per the detail (Note: Overlay of adjacent lane may be waived in the field at the discretion of the VDOT Inspector). Also, show an entrance profile of each entrance from centerline of roadway to 25' beyond the Right -of -Way with grades and connections in accordance with VDOT Standard CG -11 and WP -2. 7. Sheet 5: Include a notation on the Drawing that it is the Contractor's responsibility to ensure that positive drainage is maintained at the flowline of the curb islands and entrances. Please provide a resolution for the above comments and provide two sets of revised Drawings (one set showing highlighted changes or provide responses to the above comments with detailed references to the sheets that have been revised), and one digital copy to this office for review. However, the demolition plan referenced on Sheet 4 of 8 does not indicate removal of the existing flexible (asphalt) pavement. The actual design of the pavement needs to be clarified. If rigid pavement will be proposed, then construction joint details and layout patterns need to be provided. If the flexible pavement will be maintained, details related to overlays and demolition need to be provided. 2. Refer to Sheet 3 of 8: Indicate the locations of the existing underground fuel tanks. 3. Refer to Sheet 4 of 8: a. Indicate future status of existing board fence. b. Indicate future status of existing vent pipes. c. Delineate areas of flexible pavement to be removed. d. Indicate requirements for removal of existing monitoring wells. 4. Refer to Sheet 5 of 8: a.
