Registration for ages 2-18 years begins at 7:30am under the shelter at the ponds. Hot dogs and water will be provided. Prizes will be awarded to participants that qualify. Each pond will be stocked with 100 rainbow trout, 6 golden trout, and 4 bruder trout. The ponds will be closed to fishing on Friday, May 9th. Once the trout has been stocked, signs will be posted at each pond stating NO FISHING. There will also be 200 trout stocked in Cherokee Lake on May 9th as well. Most of the culverts that are being replaced are on trails that are scheduled for the tar& chip program which will take place in June. To this point 505 feet of culverts have been replaced and upgraded. The staff will be replacing and upgrading culverts on trails that are not scheduled for the tar& chip program as well. Asphalt Patching: Once all the culverts that are scheduled for replacement have been installed, asphalt patching will begin on the trails that are scheduled for tar& chip. Once those trails are complete, we will expand the patching to all the trails that need patching. This task will last throughout the summer months. Beach Season: Beach season at Cherokee Lake is approaching. We will begin testing the water in the beach area of the lake on May 12th in anticipation of the beginning of the swimming season. Testing of the water in the beach area will continue as long as the beach is open for swimming.
