At a Special meeting of the Board of Supervisors of Frederick
County, Virginia held on the 2Ist day of May, 1949 in the Supervisors Room over the Clerk'
Office.
P_ R_E :S E N T
L. B. Whitacre, Chairman, B. 0. Brumback, Ellsworth Dodson, C. E.
Garber and Grover Teets.
The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
WELFARE BUDGET
The xmyinilya welfare budget for the fiscal year beginning July I,
1949 and ending June 30, I950 was presented and upon the motion of B. 0. Brumback and
seconded by Grover Teets it was unaminously approved In the -amount of $58,630.00.
TENTATIVE BUDGET
Upon motion of B. 0. Brumback and seconded by C. E. Garber the
Tentative Budget as prepared was unaminously adopted and the Clerk of this Board is'
ordered and authorized to have the same published in the Winchester Evening Star as
required by Law and the Public Hearing thereof shall be held on the 21s:t day of June,1949.
CLAUDE SINE
Upon motion of Ellsworth Dodson and seconded by C. E. Garber it was
agreed and ordered that should Claude Sine be admitted to John's Hopkins Hospital,
Baltimore, Maryland for operation that this Board will pay a sum not exceeding One Hundred
($I00.00) Dollars for said operation.
JAIL COIN ITTEE MEETING
The Frederick County and City of Winchester Jail Committee met in
the City Hall on the I6th day of May, 1949 at 2:00 P. M. and the following is a true copy
of t1E minutes of said meeting:
Present: Messrs. Glaize, Whitacre, Clowe, Garber, J. Lee Miller, Teets, DeHaven and
Grant.
Absent: P. D. Miller.
Chairman Glaize called the meeting to order and stated that the
investigations of the bidders had been completed and recommended that the contract be
given to the low bidders.
After discussing the matter Mr. Garber made a motion that the
contract for the building be awarded to Turner and Harper Construction Company for
$78,225 and the Jail Cell Work to the Roanoke Iron & Bridge Works for $23,050, plus four
tool steel proof cell fronts at $80.00 each, the location to be specified later.
The motion was seconded by Mayor Clowe and unanimously passed.
It was decided that the contracts would be signed by L. B. Whitacre,
Chairman of the Board of Supervisors for the County and S. L. Grant, City Manager for the
city and that all payments would be divided equally and billed separtely to the County
and city.
Mr Turner was present and stated that he would like to start
construction on Monday, May 23rd.
Upon motion duly seconded this Board unamimously approves the action
of the Jail Committee at the above meeting.
Upon motion it is ordered that the Board do now adjourn.
