Complaints Grow
By Ben W. Gilbert
Complaints from civilian produc-
tion officials about current draft
policies continued to roll in yester-
day, but the armed services, thj
War Production Board, and M
War Manpower Commission wer4
reported to have reached an agree-
went on the deferment of an esti j
mated 40,000 men under 26 now
holding key jobs in critical indust-
ries.
Machinery to implement the
agreement was still in prepara-
tion.
The civilian agencies also were
reported still pressing for a stale-
-- ment from President Roosevelt di-
recting draft boards to protect
critical industries in filling the de-
mands of the armed forces for
M
younger men. These agencies, par-
ticularly WC, also were said to
have asked that they be consulted
before additional decisions affect-
ing national manpower planning
are made by the White House.
Without Prior Clearance
This was believed to be a ref-
erence to the fact that a February
26 statement by President Roose-
velt advising draft boards that
there were too 4nany deferments
outstanding, particularly of men
under 26, was issued without prior
--- "arance with the WMC or -111F

The Frederick County Board of
Supcivisoils met yesterday. After
hearing routine, monthly reports,
the renuninder of the day was con-

The School Board met With the

noon when the school budget was
discussed in general terms and on a
very frimidly manner, it was re-
ported by a School official.
Later in the ;tfter noon the Public
Welfare budget wtis and
- this, too, was studied in detail.
Since there were some final ch-
anges and revisions to be made in
both of these budgets, largely of
a mechanical nature, it was decid-
cd to hold unothm joint mccting of
the Board of Supervisors with the
School Board and Board of Pub-
lic Welfatc, this Friday, whorl it
is expected that definite and final
action will be taken. -
Nothing definite was done in re-
gaid'to either budgt,t, ut it was
nudcistood that . "a ,,frie illy spirit
characterized the entire ;meeting.
