Wyatt, Planner II 40 RE: March Meeting and Agenda DATE: February 26, 1992 There will be a meeting of the Transportation Committee at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 1992 in the conference room of the Old Frederick County Courthouse, 9 Court Square, Winchester, Virginia. The Transportation Committee will discuss the following items: AGENDA Committee discussion regarding the Winchester Area Transportation Study. Committee discussion regarding the March 30, 1992 Preallocation Meeting to be held in Staunton. Letter from Mr. C. E. Maddox regarding the future alignment of Route 642 and U.S. Route 522, south of Winchester. Other. 9 N. Loudoun Street - P.O. Box 601 - Winchester, Virginia - 22601 3/2/92 Transportation Committee Agenda Page -2- Mr. George Pierce, Transportation Planner from the Virginia Department of Transportation, will be present at tonight's meeting to familiarize the committee with the Winchester Area Transportation Study (WATS). This study employs land use as a means of determining traffic generations for a given area. This study also utilizes a computer model to provide users with future traffic generation projections. Staff asks that the Transportation Committee review the results of the interchange study portion of the WATS report, examine the existing road deficiencies, and review the proposed short-term solutions. No committee action is necessary at this time. This item will be reviewed by the Transportation Committee at future meetings. 2) Staff will review the proposed 1992 primary road plan with the Transportation Committee. This plan will be presented to the Planning Commission on March 18, 1992 and the Board of Supervisors on March 25, 1992. The Preallocation Meeting will be held at the Virginia Department of Transportation's Staunton office on March 30, 1992. Staff asks that the Transportation Committee recommend approval of the proposed Primary Road Improvement Plan, or approval with any modifications that the committee deems appropriate. Staff would encourage all Transportation Committee members to attend this meeting. 3) The final item in your agenda package regards future improvements to U.S. Route 522, south of Winchester, and Route 642. Enclosed is a letter addressed to Kris Tierney from Charles E. Maddox of G.W. Clifford & Associates. After reviewing the construction drawings showing the four -lanes proposed for U.S. Route 522, Mr. Maddox discovered that there is a vertical misalignment that will make it difficult to construct a crossover for Route 642. Mr. Maddox would like to address the Transportation Committee during the regular April meeting. At that time, committee members will be provided with maps of the specific area. 4) Other.
