Item # 1
Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation (SVBF')
Project Implementation Grant
Staff has applied for and received a grant from the SVBF in the amount of $8,000. (The
application submitted for this grant is attached for your information.) The purpose of this grant is
to fund a project to provide training to the Historic Resources Advisory Board (HRAB). The
funding will be used to hire a consultant to provide assistance to the HRAB in the form of
training to improve mediation skills, improve communication skills, and to improve the HRAB's
ability to effectively review land use proposals and make recommendations. In addition to the
training program, the SVBF has suggested the development of operational and review guidelines
for the HRAB as part of this project.
At this month's HRAB meeting, staff would like to discuss with members implementation of the
grant project in more detail and also receive feedback from members regarding what they would
like to gain through this project. Mr. Howard J. Kittel, Executive Director of the SVBF, will be
present at the meeting.
