HomeMy WebLinkAbout010-20 (NotRegulateProhibitPurchasePossessionOfFirearms) �G1h' BOARD OF SUPERVISORS RESOLUTION WHEREAS, we the Board of Supervisors, of Frederick County,Virginia affirm our commitment to uphold the constitutionally protected rights of all of our law-abiding citizens and law-abiding visitors to Frederick County; and, WHEREAS, the Frederick County Board of Supervisors previously passed a resolution dated December 11, 2019 reaffirming our commitment to uphold and protect the right of our citizens to keep and bear arms; and, WHEREAS, certain legislation has been passed in the Virginia General Assembly that allows localities to, by ordinance,ban otherwise lawfully possessed and transported fireanns from certain public spaces, causing law-abiding citizens to be exposed to a patchwork of local ordinances as they travel throughout our Commonwealth, and, WHEREAS, the Frederick County Board of Supervisors acknowledges the significant economic contribution made to our community by tourists and visitors and does not wish to discourage travel to Frederick County; and, WHEREAS, Frederick County wishes to welcome all law-abiding citizens who wish to live in, visit, or otherwise participate in the economy of our community, including those citizens and visitors who choose to legally carry a firearm for personal protection; and, WHEREAS, the Frederick County Board of Supervisors does not wish to infringe on the rights of the law-abiding citizens of, or visitors to, Frederick County to keep and bear arms; and, WHEREAS, we the Frederick County Board of Supervisors, as the lesser magistrates of our Commonwealth, on behalf of the citizens of Frederick County, express our continued opposition to any law that would unconstitutionally restrict the natural rights of our law-abiding citizens and visitors to, Frederick County to keep and bear arms. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors of Frederick County Virginia: That the Frederick County Board of Supervisors hereby declares that we shall not exercise any authority granted to us by § 15.2-915(E) of the Code of Virginia to regulate or prohibit the otherwise legal purchase, possession, or transfer of firearms or ammunition. Furthermore, the Frederick County Board of Supervisors hereby declares that to create uniformity within the Commonwealth of Virginia, § 15.2-915(E) of the Code of Virginia and all other restrictive gun legislation enacted this year should be immediately repealed.
