SALES TAX Resolution Ado by the Board of Supervisors of
Frederick County, Virginia, at its Regular
Meeting held on January I4, I946.
Whereas, the Board of Supervisors of Frederick County, Virginia,
ry
Ihas been advised that a bill will be introduced in the General Assembly of Virginia
providing for a general sales tax for the purpose of raising revenue for the schools of
Virginia; and
Whereas, the Board of Supervisors of Frederick Couhty, Virginia,
believes that the available revenue from taxable property in the State of Virginia is
inadequate for the needs of an efficient and modern school system in the State of Virginia;
..
Whereas, the Board of Supervisors of Frederick County, Virginia, is
of the opinion that a more equitable apportionment of the burden of providing for the schoc
children of this state can be accomplished by the enactment of a sales tax, thus placing
part of the burden of paying for the operation of the schools upon a larger number of
peopbe, who are not otherwise taxable by this state;
Therefore, be it resolved: That the Board of Supervisors of
Frederick County, Virginia, in accordance with the views expressed herein, go upon record
Assembly
as favoring the passage of legislation at this session of the General/of Virginia, providi
for a general sales tax, and urge that Hon. Burgess Nelson, State Senator for the Twenty -
fifth Senatorial District, and Hon. E. Blackburn Moore, Delegate from Frederick and Clarke
Counties, and the City of 6;inchester, advocate and support the passage of a bill providing
for a general sales tax to raise revenue for the use of the public school system of,
Virginia.
The Clerk is directed to send copies of this resolution to Hon.
Burgess Nelson and Hon. E. Blackburn Moore.
