HomeMy WebLinkAboutApril 03 2008 Joint Meeting with WInchester City Council300 A Joint Meeting of the Frederick County Board of Supervisors and Winchester City Council was held on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 5:00 P.M., in Court Room 3-3-D of the Winchester-Frederick County Joint Judicial Center, 5 North Kent Street, Winchester, Virginia. PRESENT Chairman Richard C. Shickle; Vice Chairman Gene E. Fisher; Charles S. DeHaven, Jr.; Gary W. llove; Bill M. Ewing; and Gary A. Lofton. ABSENT Philip A. Lemieux. OTHERS PRESENT Mayor Elizabeth Minor; President Charley Gaynor; Jeff Buettner; Mike Butler; Evan Clark; Tim Coyne; Carolyn Griffin; Dick Helm; Art Major; Stewart Masters; and Rick Nelson. CALL TO ORDER Chairman Shickle called the Board to order. MOMENT OF SILENCF. President Gaynor asked everyone to observe a moment of silence. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Chairman Shickle led the Pledge of Allegiance. REPORT FROM THE UNIFICATION STEERING COMMITTEE The purpose of this meeting was to receive the report and recommendation from the Unification Steering Committee. Mike Foreman, Chairman ofthe Unification Steering Committee, presented the Committee's recommendation to the two governing bodies. The Committee recommended the unification of both localities; however, this recommendation did not include the form of government this unification would ultimately take, as that would require additional study. At the conclusion of the meeting, the members of the Board and City Council were polled via secret ballot in order to gauge the interest of both bodies in pursuing unification. The meeting adjourned at 6:15 P.M.
