At a regular meeting of the Board of Supervisors of Frederick
County, Virginia, held at the Court, House therebf, on Monday, April 4th, 1938.
PRESENT: C. I. Brumback, Chairman, P. H. Gold, C. M. Rosen-
berger, W. H. Branner and E. W. Adams.
MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETLIG
The minutes of the last regular meeting of the Board were read
and unanimously approved.
MOTHERS AID
On motion, it is unanimously ordered that the Mother's Aid be
discontinued after April 1, 1938, and all persons receiving mothers aid will be cared for
through the public welfare office only to the extent of their needs.
B UDGE T
A tentative budget of the County School Board and the Board of
Supervisors is accepted and it is ordered that it be published in the Evening Star and a
hearing be held on same May 2, 1938.
SUPPLIES FOR SHERIFF'S OFFICE
Mrs. Nora E. Newcome, administratrix of J. W. Newcome, deceas-
ed, made a price to the Board of the property owned by the late J. W. Newcome, Sheriff as
follows:
1 revolver and holster, complete
1 pair of Peerless handcuffs
1 Adding Machine
1 Office Desk & Chair
4 Oak Filing Cabinets
1 large Steel fire proof' filing cabinet
1 small Steel fire proof filing cabinet

making a total of $85.50 and the Board offered $75.00 total for the above and if the same
is accepted by Mrs. Newcome, it is ordered that a check be drawn to her for that amount.
REP ORT OF MISS NALLEY
Miss Eulalia S. Nalley, Superintendent of Public Welfare, pre-
sented her report and the same was unanimously approved.

Mr. T. W. Russell, Superintendent of the County Home, pres
his report and the same was unanimously approved.
REPORT OF MISS BLA
Miss Madeline Blair, Home Demonstration Agent, presented her
report and the same was unanimously approved.

LEVIES
On motion of Mr. Rosenberger, seconded by Mr. Gold, it is
unanimously ordered that the General County levy be reduced 10 cents making the total
General County levy 40 cents on the $100.00 valuation, the General County School levy be
$1.00 on the $100.00 valuation, Back Creek District Road Debtlevy be 10 cents on the
$100.00 valuation and the Gainesboro District Road Debt levy be 25 cents on the $100.00.
valuation.
This levy is based on a tentative budget presented by the
School Board and the Board of Supervisors.
REPAIR OF ROADS
On motion of Mr. Gold, seconded by Mr. Branner, it is moved
that the following roadsbe included in construction work for the fiscal year beginning
July 1, 1938 and ending June 30, 1938 as follows:
Route 600 -New floor on bridge - 84 feet.
Route 622 - Continuation of surface treatment - 1.4 miles.
Route 628 - Continuation of surface treatment - 2 miles.
Route 664 - Re- surface treatment - 1.3 miles.
Route 671 - Re- surface treatment - 1.8 miles.

Creek - 0.6 miles.
Route 660 -New bridge over Stephens Run - 30 feet.
Route 645 - Surface with stone - 1.7 miles.
Route 600 - Bridge and approaches over Bowman's Run & Hogue
Route 671 - Grade, drain and surface - 1.1 miles.
Route 654 from 677 to 671 -.3 miles,- grade, drain and surface.
All members voted for said motion, upon a recorded vote.
ROAD BY OPEQUO14 MEMORIAL CHURCH
It is unanimously requested and recommended by the Board of
Supervisors, on petition of many members and friends of the Opequon Memordl Church at Kern;
town, Virginia, that the Highway Department take into the secondary road system, construct
; and maintain the same, a revised or relocated Route leading from Route 11 to the above
mentioned Church and on to Route 652, as soon as funds are available, with this proviso:
that the Highway Department will not be responsible for rights of ways or fencing said
right of way.
TRANSFE OF F UNDS
On motion, it is ordered that $678.99 be transferred from the
General County Fund to the Public Assistance Fund for the 4th quarter.
Bills totaling $2,733.34 were approved and ordered to be paid
from the General County Fund by Checks Nos. 2890 to 2944, inclusive.
Sheep claims totaling $48.10 were approved and ordered to be
paid from the Dog Fund by Checks Nos. 231 to 20 inclusive.

At a Special meeting of the Board of Supervisors of Frederick
ty, Virginia, held at the Court House thereof on Monday, April 11th, 1938.
PRESENT: C. I. Brumback, Chairman, P. H. Gold, E. W. Adams,
M. Rosenberger and W. H. Branner.
HOSPITAL
A hearing was held with the Memorial Hospital as to the authori
zation of County patients and it was agreed that all County patients are to be paid for
by Frederick County and are to be authorized by the Board of Public Welfare Office (Mrs.
Nalley) and the Hospital shall render the Public Welfare Office a bill at the end of each
month, with a list of County patients with the amount unpaid.
It is ordered that the Board do now adjourn.

The upkeep and improvements to County property was discussed al
APPROPRIATION TO SHERIFF'S WIDON
The Board considered the statute enacted at the last legislatur
allowing the Board of Supervisors to appropriate a sum of money to the widow of a Sheriff
killed in the performance of his duties. Inasmuch as the Acts oftthe Assembly have not
been published at this time, action thereon was deferred until the June meeting of the
Board and tax payers may express their opinions as to the said appropriation.
