ROADS
Upon motion of Grover Teets and seconded by B. 0. Brumback, the following
resolution was adopted:
BE IT RESOLVED' That the Virginia Department of Highways is hereby requested

to improve the following sections of roads in Frederick County as Federal Aid Secondary Projects;
also that the following requested improvements be given financial priority subsequent to requests,
i
made by this Board and approved by the Highway Department prior to the date of this resolution.
The recommended priority for these requested improvements is as listed.
Priority 1. Apply surface treatment on Route 641 from E. Int. Rt. 636 to
the Warren County Line, a distance of 2.36 miles. The reconstruction of this section of road
was completed May 3 1957 with the exception of surface treatment as Federal Aid Project (Old)
1334 -09, (New) 0641- 034 -009.
Priority 2. Apply surface treatment on Route 600 from Route 55 at Four
Corners to Route 606 at Mountain Falls a distance of 3.33 miles. The reconstruction of this
section of road was completed December, 1957, with the exception of surface treatment as a
Federal Aid Project, (Old) 1334 -08, (New) 0600 - 034 -008.
Priority 3. Apply surface treatment on Routes 600 and 692 from Route 690 to'
Route 522 south of Reynold's Store a distance of 3.85 miles. The reconstruction of this section
of road was completed in May 1956 with the exception of surface treatment as a Federal Aid
Project (Old) 1334 -06, (New) 0600- 034 -006.
Priority 4. Apply surface treatment on Route 660 from the Int. of Route
340 near Winchester to the North Intersection of Route 664, a distance of 2.11 miles. The
reconstruction of this road is now in process with the exception of surface treatment as a
Federal Aid Project, (Old) 1334 -10, (New) 0660 - 034 -010.
Priority 5. Apply surface treatment on Route 732 from Route 628 to Route
622, a distance of 1.84 miles. The proposed reconstruction of this road is anticipated in the
near future with the exception of surface treatment as Federal Aid Project (Old) 1334 -14, (New)
0732- 034 -014.
Priority 6. Widen existing bridge on Route 628 over Cedar Creek at the
Shenandoah - Frederick County Line as a joint Federal Aid Secondary rroject between Shenandoah and
Frederick Counties.
This Board hereby calls to the attention of the Highway Department that the
necessary rights of way for the surface treatments recommended in Priority 1 through 5 of this

petition was acquired and recorded under the initial Projects. This Board agrees to assist and
cooperate in the acquisition of right of way required for the proposed project listed as Priority
6, it being understood that costs of such right of way are to be paid from Secondary Funds allo-

COUNTY AUDI
Upon motion, duly seconded, it is requested ?y the Board of Supervisors
of Frederick County, Virginia that the Auditor of Public Accounts make theannual audit of the
(Frederick County Offices for the year ending on the 30th day of June, 1958. The Clerk is ordered
to mail a copy. /
( - R EQUESTS TO B AP PROVED
Upon motion, duly seconded, the Frederick County Board of Supervisorg
requests that the City Council of Winchester approve all plats within the radius of three miles
from the Corporation limits, before being approved by said County Board. The Clerk is ordered
to transmit a copy to said City Council.

Upon motion, duly seconded, it was unanimously decided to grant the

above requested permission; subject, however, to the following restrictions: that no bricks be
damaged, all damage to meters t o be paid, no stakes be driven, no wires to be used and further
not to be used for living quarters and also to post bond if declared necessary by said Board.
APP R O PRIATIONS - FIRE COMPAN
Upon motion, duly seconded, it is ordered thatthe Stephens City Fire
Company, Shawnee Fire Company and Round Hill Fire Company each be paid by warrant $200.00 from
the General County Fund and Clearbrook Fire Company, Gore Fire Company, and Middletown Fire
y Company, having each waived their share offappropriat ion in favor of the Gainesboro Fire Company;
it is ordered that the Gainesboro Fire Company be paid $600.00 by warrant from the General Cc
Fund.
F REDERICK COUN TUB ERCULOSIS ASSOCIATION_
Upon motion, duly seconded, it is ordered t hat the Frederick County
Tuberculosis Association be paid by warrant from the General County Fund $100.00.
WINCHESTER VOLUNTEER RESCUE SQUAD
Upon motion, duly seconded, the Winchester Volunteer Rescue Squad
was granted permission to operate a carnival on the Ed Molden lot South of the City of Wincheste
beginning May 12, 1958, and to continue one week from said date.

TRAPPING FOXES
Upon motion, duly seconded, it is ordered that the trapping season be extended
for a period of forty -five days from the 26th day of April, 1958.
SCHOOL BOARD - TENTATIVE BUDGET
The Frederick County School Board appeared before the °oard of Supervisors
and presented their tentative budget for the year beginning on the 1st day of July, 1958, and
ending on the 30th day of June, 1959.
BILLS PAYABLE
Accounts totaling $6,729.19 were approved and ordered to be paid from the
General County Fund by warrants numbers 18301 to 18354 inclusive; and livestock, fowl claims
and Earl Cather's salary totaling $355.50 were approved and ordered to be paid from the Dog Fund
by warrants numbers 1757 to 1761 inclusive.
UPON MOTION, DULY SECONDED, IT IS ORDERED THAT THE BOARD DO NOW ADJOURN.

Upon motion, duly seconded, it was unanimously ordered that the Board appro-

FIRE CCMPANY - Gainesboro
Upon motion, duly seconded, it is ordered that One Hundred Dollars ($100.00)
be appropriated to the Gainesboro Fire Company, Inc.
FUNKHOUSER PLAT
Upon motion, duly seconded the following resolution was adopted;
WHEREAS, the Funkhouser Addition Subdivision was platted and recorded in 1941
prior to the subdivision control ordinance for Frederick County and prior to the subdivision

control policy adopted by the Virginia Department of Highways; and
WHEREAS, a fifty -foot right of way is shown on the plat of this
subdivision recorded in Deed Book 183 on Pages 46 through 48, and this Board does hereby accept
this fifty feet as being a dedication of right of way for the purpose of use by the public; and
WHEREAS, the people living along these streets have graded,
drained, and surfaced the streets twenty feet wide with five inches of crushed stone at their
own expense, and have requested that those streets be added to the Secondary System of Highways
and maintained by the Virginia Department of Highways; and

WHEREAS, the necessary drainage easements have been furnished this
Board and are recorded in Deed Book 252, Page 81.
NOR, THEnEFORE, for and in consideration of the fact that this
subdivision was platted and partially developed prior to the subdivision control ruling of the
Highway Commission, and the fact that the people in this subdivision have contributed considerably
to the development of this street, it is the sense of this Board that this street be added to the
Secondary System of highways; and the Virginia Department of Highways is hereby requested to add
said street and maintain and improve as funds accruing to this County become available.
ROADS- SHOCKEYSVILLE- DISCONTINUED FOR MAINTENANCE
Upon motion, duly seconded, the following was adopted:
BE IT RESOLVED, that notice having been posted and the hearing
held, that the section of Rt. 691 extending from 0.15 tai. east of Rt. 671 at Shockeysville to

the Virginia -West Virginia line, a distance of 1.85 mile, be discontinued /from the secondary -

system of Highways in Frederick County in accordance with Paragraph 33 -76.7 of the Code of
Virginia, since this road no longer renders regular public service.
BUDGET - ROADS
Upon motion, duly seconded, the following resolution was adopted:
BE IT RESOLVED, that this Board hereby approved the 1958 -1959
Tentative Secondary Road Audget for Frederick County, as submitted by C. H. Coffman, Resident
Engineer.
