RESOLUTION TO INCREASE THE SPEED LIMIT ON ROUTE 37
IN FREDERICK COUNTY
WHEREAS, the 1996 General Assembly passed Senate Joint Resolution No.7 which directed
a special task force to conduct a study of highway speed limits and report all findings to the 1997
General Assembly; and
WHEREAS, the results of this study recommended that the General Assembly could raise
speed limits on highways which did not adversely impact safety to the traveling public; and
WHEREAS, Route 37 was engineered and constructed as a limited access highway required
to meet a 70 mile per hour design speed condition; and
WHEREAS, an increase in the speed limit on Route 37 to a 6S mile per hour condition has
received the support of Commonwealth Transportation Board Representative H. A. "Chunk"
Neale, and Virginia Department of Transportation Resident Engineer Jerry A. Copp.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED that the Frederick County Board of
Supervisors request that the General Assembly establish a 65 mile per hour speed condition for
Route 37.
