Proc. 006-00 BOARD OF SUPERVISORS FREDERICK COUNTY, VIRGINIA PROCLAMATION OF THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS COMMEMORATING THE 10th ANNIVERSARY OF THE RE-ESTABLISHMENT OF INDEPENDENCE FROM THE FORMER SOVIET UNION IN THE REPUBLIC OF LITHUANIA WHEREAS, the Republic of Lithuania has a long and proud history; and WHEREAS, the United States of America has never recognized the forcible incorporation of the Republic of Lithuania into the former Soviet Union; and WHEREAS, the people of Lithuania, through their representatives, did on March II, 1990, declare the re-establishment of the independence of the Republic of Lithuania through the use of non- violent resistence; and WHEREAS, having gained control over its territory, Lithuania established a democratic society, and is developing a free market economy, and is pursuing a course of full integration into the community of free and democratic nations; and WHEREAS, the political and economic reform in Lithuania continues to this day, and Lithuania has made and continues to make a significant contribution toward the maintenance of international peace and stability by participating in NATO led peacekeeping duties in Bosnia and Kosovo; NOW, THEREFORE, I, Richard C. Shickle, Chairman of the Frederick County Board of Supervisors, do hereby congratulate and commend the Republic of Lithuania on the occasion of the 10'" anniversary of the declaration of re-establishment of its independence and sovereignty, and tor its continued progress toward political and economic liberty and for its signal contributions to NATO peacekeeping efforts.
