BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
RESOLUTION
BY THE
FREDERICK COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
The Board of Supervisors of Frederick County, at a special meeting on the 28th day ofJuly,
1999, adopted the following:
WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States has made $670,000.00 available, to be
administered by the National Park Service, for the acquisition of Civil War Battlefield lands; and
WHEREAS, the National Park Service has stated that priority will be given to core areas
of Priority I and II Battlefields as identified by the 1993 Report of the Civil War Sites Advisory
Commission; and
WHEREAS, the property commonly know as "The Grim Farm" encompasses a large portion
of the remaining core area of First and Second Kemstown, a Priority I Battlefield; and
WHEREAS, the County of Frederick has already committed considerable financial and staff
resources toward the acquisition and preservation of this historic site,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Frederick County Board of
Supervisors does wholeheartedly support the application of the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields
National Historic District Commission for $350,000 to go toward the acquisition of this portion of
First Kernstown.
