026-01 BOARD OF SUPERVISORS A PROJECT ENDORSEMENT RESOLL"TION FOR THE APPLICATION TO THE VlRGI;\fIA DEPARTMENT OF TRA;\fSPORTATION FOR FUNDING UNDER THE INTERylOOAL Sl:RFACE TRANSPORTATION EFFICIENCY ACT FOR TIlE REDBUD RUN - CIVIL WAR BATTLEFIELD CORRIDOR PROJECT \VIIEREAS, in accordance with the Commonwealth Transportation Board constructIOn allocation procedures, it is necessary that a rcquest by resolution be received from the local government in order that the Virginia Department of Transportation program an enhancement project in Frederick County, and WHEREAS, the Frederick County Board of Supervisors supports the desire of private land owners who want to voluntarily maintain and protect their farm and forest lands for this and future generations, and \VHEREAS, the Frederick County Board of Supervisors supports the development of heritage tourism based upon the histOriC and scenie resources of Frederick County as an economic engine for that area. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Frederick County Board of Supervisors requests the Commonwealth Transportation Board to establish the Redbud Run - Civil War Battlefields Corridor Project for the enhancement and protection of lands related to the battles of Second and Third Winchester through the purchase, donation, or transfer of scenic easements on lands in that corridor whieh possess significant aesthetic, historic, natural, visual. or open space values from interested land owners. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Frederick County will act as the tiscal agent for the said enhancement project funds with the understanding that all matching funds will be provided by the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation and that the County will not bear the costs for the said project, and that if Frederick County or the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation elects to cancel the project the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation hereby agrees to reimburse the Virginia Departml:nt of Transportation for the total amount of the eosts expended by the Department through the date the Department is notified of such cancellation.
