Dear Mr. Shicklc:
As you are awarc, Congressman Frank Wolf recently introduced legislation to establish
the Cedar Creek Battlefield and Belle Grove National Historical Park. We are very
excited about this possibility and would like to encourage your support on our behalf in
obtaining the passage of this legislation.
We would also ask for your assistance in the selection of the Visitor's Center to be
located in Middletown. What better site for the Center than an area that overlooks both
the actual site where the battle took place as well as the beautiful historic Belle Grove
Plantation. It is our understanding that the facility and acreage now occupied by the
Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation Offices could be available. This building is located
on the site where General Gordon's Army crossed to begin his flank attack on the Federal
Forces.
Having The National Park Visitor's Center in Middletown, will not only benefit our
immediate area but the surrounding area as well.
We look forward to hearing from you and hope that we can count on your support.
Sincerely,
~~
John A. Copeland
